Well, I’m really hoping that my run of bad luck has finally come to an end. Following on from a few mechanical problems at Cadwell that cost me at least one race win and inaccurate tyre selection at Pembrey, my first crash since August last year has certainly made my push for the championship in 2009 a whole lot harder.
Having got away well in the rain sodden ‘Gold’ double points race at Oulton Park on the 6th June, circulating with the leaders in difficult conditions, I lost control of the rear end of my Paul Caunce Racing Honda CBR1000RR on the exit of the Shell Oils hairpin and ended up highsiding, separating my shoulder and badly spraining my wrist. Worse, I’ve gifted 50 points to the new series leader, Gary May.
But with Snetterton just five weeks away, I’m hopeful of getting back to race fitness in time for one my favourite circuits and one where I scored my first Thundersport GB win last year on the 600.
Hopefully history will repeat itself and we’ll be back in with a shout of clawing back a few points on the series lead — I’m now 61 points off the top spot of the championship but with 375 points still available, I’m not giving up hope just yet!
All that’s left is to thank Paul Caunce for his help, my wife Nicky for being the best ‘team mate’ I could wish for and to everyone involved for their support.
We can still do this!
